How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?
I’m glad I rediscovered these wordpress prompts…for a minute each day, I actually have something to think about and write down without noise. One example of unplugging perhaps? 🤔
In the sixth grade, I had a terrible teacher. Yet, she held wisdom…sometimes.
First, she told my parents I should be a poet. She was correct, I think. Looking down my years of science, specifically neuroscience, I can’t say I see it as wasteful. But I do believe I had a knowing that I was supposed to, somehow, be in the creative arts. But now at 31 I feel like an ancient fossil…indeed, it’s funny what culture can propagate in us; for me, it has propagated disbelief that even the most powerful prescription retinoid has yet to solve.
But anywho, my teacher had another great piece of wisdom—if you can’t finish a task, walk away for a bit. You won’t be able to solve it with a mindset that simply has come to an impasse. But by trying less—talking a walk, playing a game, going to bed—our mindset can reorient and that impasse can be moved with no voluntary action required.
Mrs. Stearns, you should have been a counselor, not a teacher. Then again, maybe I should have been a poet 🤷♀️ 🌟
